Offline places

An offline place is a copy of an online place and resides on the hard disk of your personal computer. The offline place can include the top-level room in the place only or the top-level room plus some or all of the inner rooms, if there are any.

The information in your place is stored on a IBM® Lotus® Quickr server. The Lotus Quickr server can belong to your company or a third party, for example, an Internet service provider.

When you work with Lotus Quickr online, you have to be connected to your Lotus Quickr server. If you plan to travel or be somewhere where you cannot connect to your Lotus Quickr server or would prefer to work offline to save connect charges, you can take your place offline.

When you make changes in your offline place while physically connected to your Lotus Quickr Place server -- for example, when you add or edit pages in the place -- Lotus Quickr automatically updates your online place with the changes at regular intervals. Similarly, when you make changes in your online place, Lotus Quickr updates the offline place with the changes. The process of updating the online place and offline place is called synchronization.

You can have more than one offline place. That is, if you are a member of more than one place, you can take them all offline.

Note: You cannot create, edit, or manually run PlaceBots in an offline place. Scheduled PlaceBots do not run in an offline place. Only form PlaceBots run as expected in an offline place.
